Did you know that the average head weighs about 12lbs? And, for every inch off the center, it adds 10lbs of weight on the neck muscles, which affects the rest of the body! That's a lot of strain for such a small muscle group. Forward Head Posture has been shown to decrease the lungs' vital capacity by 30%! It also increases the curvature of the thoracic spine, the area in which your lungs are located. This has shown to also increase the mortality rate by 144% in older populations. On an energetic level, often an increased curvature of the thoracic spine can be the result of blockages in the Heart Center. This is often caused by deep-rooted psychological pain that may stem from as far back as childhood, or even generationally passed down.  ​As our Heart sits underneath the protective cage of our ribs, rounding of the thoracic cavity can be a physiological response to protecting the heart.
